在滇东北山区坡地农林复合经营中用桤木作造林树种,能提高退化地的生产力和有较好的水土保持及改善土壤结构作用。高位修枝可以减少林冠层遮荫面积的70%以上;格木树枝的再生萌发能力强,5年生以上隔2~3年可修枝1次,15年生以上单株每次可修枝叶30kg;在年龄为6~10年、密度为1200株/hm2的复合林内平均每年可修鲜枝叶76t/hm2。桤木在秋冬季落叶,不影响复合林内冬季作物生长。
