海明威的独特之处，在于他在沉痛地表现人类孤独境况的同时，还不遗余力地寻觅现代人的出路。他用一系列“迷们”的“硬汉”朱诠释他新的精神价值体系：对任何外在的英雄救世、人类之爱、宗教信仰不抱任何幻想，超越孤独的唯一途径是转向自身开掘精神力量──即自我超越、自我救赎的努力上。海明威新的精神价值，实际上是人类宗教情绪在现当代的延续，他的人物也充满了耶稣殉难同时包含自我教赎的意象。
Hemingway’s uniqueness lies in his painful performance of the loneliness of human beings while sparing no effort in finding ways out for the modern man. He interprets his new spiritual value system with a series of “tough guys” who are “fans” of Zhuang: the only way to transcend loneliness is to turn to the spirit of digging out any outward heroic salvation, human love, religion, Power ─ ─ self-transcendence, self-salvation efforts. Hemingway’s new spiritual value is actually a continuation of the religious sentiment of mankind in the present and contemporary times. His character is also full of images of the crucifixion of Jesus and self-denial.
