日本铁路为了实现在标准轨距的新干线和窄轨轨距的既有线之间直通运行 ,开发了可变轨距电动转向架。这种转向架不但设有可变轨距装置 ,而且设有转向角联动自动转向装置 ,以使其在既有线小半径曲线上也有良好的走行性能。为了简化结构 ,首先开发了车轮与牵引电动机一体化的独立车轮旋转方式转向架 (A方式转向架 ) ,其后又研制了采用平行万向轴驱动装置的左右车轮整体旋转式转向架 (B方式转向架 )。本文分别对这两种转向架的结构特征、变轨距动作等内容作了说明。
