早在二千年前的东周,信阳县就开始种茶,唐代为淮南茶区主要产茶县之一,茶叶品质优良,为朝庭贡品。宋代名人苏东坡赞曰“淮南茶信阳第一”。1915年车云山毛尖茶在巴拿马万国博览会上荣获优质奖章和奖状。五十年代誉为全国十大名茶之一,此后数次评为省优、部优产品。1985年荣获国家银质奖,并参加亚、太地区国际博览会和全国农业优质产品展览会展出,1986年被选入《中国土特名产辞典》条目。信阳毛尖,采制精细,有其特殊的加工工艺,具有外形美观、细、园、光、直、乡白毫,清香、味浓,汤色绿的独特风味,为信阳县独有的著名待产。深受消费者喜爱,目前除遍销全国各地外还远销到日本、新加坡、马来西亚及欧美等十多个国家和地区。
