The authors analysed 336 measurable brain metastases in 108 cases of brain metastases that were irradiated with pure whole brain from 1983 to 1995. The tumor volume, necrosis range, primary histopathology, and follow-up after radiotherapy were analyzed. All parameters were correlated with optimal local efficacy and progression-free survival of tumors by single and multivariate tests. Between the ages of 23 and 81 years old, the median age was 61 years; the Karnofsky score was between 20 and 100, and the median value was 70; 43% had extracranial metastases; 58% of the primary lesions were uncontrolled.
