日本长野县蔬菜花卉试验场融合了莴苣的栽培种和野生种的细胞,并使杂种细胞再生成植物体。长野县是屈指可数的蔬菜王国,其莴苣产量占全国产量的40%。莴苣在日本播种困难,用种几乎全部靠从美国进口。因此,希望有适合于日本风土的品种。长野县采取从原产地地中海沿岸引进作为育种母本的野生种等措施,正在积极地进行品种改良。细胞融合的研究成果将于1987年4月4日在东京召开的育种学会上发表。连作障害是日本种植莴苣农家共同的烦恼。连作障害的主要原因之一是欧文氏菌属
