The process for recovering silver and tannic acid from polyester X-ray films has been developed by the Technical University of Michigan. Professor C. Robert Bailled said that the space on the liquid surface is filled with air and saponification at 400°F will produce a solution from which silver sludge can be filtered and smelted. Some organic dyes, adhesives, and glycols will be oxidized. Acidification can precipitate tannic acid.
