Outer hair cells (OHCs) are considered the cellular basis of the cochlear amplifier for their dynamic properties. Stimulation of OHCs causes conduction waves to amplify their 100-1000-fold amplitude and conduction spikes while OHCS produces otoacoustic emissions (OAES).
