Currently, Nippon Steel’s diesel locomotives and trucks are equipped with a wide variety of machinery and devices, such as fuel injection pumps, torque converters, reversing mechanisms, etc., to perform complex controls. These parts are made up of precision parts and their wear will inevitably cause their performance to deteriorate. The maintenance of these components is essential to maintain their performance. In response to the above, the Japanese National Railways has developed a plan to introduce electronic technology to control these components in the hope of minimizing the maintenance workload while improving their performance. So far, the results obtained are satisfactory. In the sections that follow, some aspects of the program project and some of the results achieved are described.
