As early as the Japanese were open to actively absorb the Chinese culture, resulting in the Japanese intellectuals mostly sinologists phenomenon. In modern times, the Japanese were eager to get rid of the relatively backward Asia and catch up with and surpass Europe and the United States. Therefore, the Japanese literature after the Meiji began its ingestion of Western literature and had close relations with European and American literature. Nevertheless, modern Japanese literature can not completely break away from the foundation of Sinology, and fiercely collide with the nationalism that Japan has produced and developed, forming the characteristics of Japanese modern literature.
