Objective: To investigate the effect of ginseng stem and leaf saponin on D-galactose-like aging rats. METHODS: Wistar female rats were injected subcutaneously with D-galactose 48 mg/kg daily for 60 weeks from the age of 50 days. One group was fed with Ginseng stem and leaf saponin at the same time (25 mg/20 g feed ratio was incorporated). The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the hypothalamus, malondialdehyde (MDA) content in brain tissue, and serum and primary pituitary cells in culture medium were measured by pyrogallol method, TBA colorimetric method, and radioimmunoassay. (PRL) concentration. RESULTS: Ginseng stem and leaf saponins could prevent D-galactose-induced hypothalamic SOD activity decrease, brain tissue MDA content increase, serum PRL elevation, and pituitary cells on thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and Dopamine (DA) stimulates the decrease of reactivity and other effects. Conclusion: Ginseng stem and leaf saponins have anti-D-galactose-induced aging
