我国东南部的闽西、闽南地区,散布着一大批被誉为“世界上独一无二的建筑模式”的古民居建筑,这些建筑多为夯土墙体,又因最初是南移客家人聚居所筑,习惯上称为“客家土楼”。客家土楼的造型和布局多种多样,既有环形的圆楼,也有四边形的方楼,其中圆楼又有单环、双环和三环之分;有单座土楼,也有聚群而筑的群楼。这些多姿多彩的建筑奇葩如群星散落在山清水秀的南国山区,向世人展示祖国丰富建筑宝库中一组璀璨的珍奇。80年代一批日本建筑师在参观客家土楼时,曾惊叹“飞碟降落人间”。
