Animal experiments are a very important and indispensable part of the study of nutrition. However, this generally accepted view was challenged in the main report of Professor H. Spielmann (Germany) at the 17th International Conference on Nutrition (morning of August 28). Most listeners expect to hear some new methods and trends in animal experiments. Surprisingly, however, Professor Spielmann’s message to the audience is that animal experiments will gradually decrease in future nutraceutical studies with the ultimate goal of essentially or completely canceling animal experiments.
