The Joint Review Committee of the United States Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) will add a new standard for quality management in the January 1992 issue of the Hospital Assessment Manual, known as the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). For this purpose, each hospital is required to become familiar with the new standard and implement it. The focus of the improvement is on the three aspects of the examination of surgical patients, the use of blood and the evaluation of medications. Since 1992, although the assessment of hospitals does not necessarily have to comply with the new standards, it must be made relevant to personnel.
