虚拟制造(Virtual Manufacturing)又叫拟实制造,是20世纪80年代后期美国首先提出来的一种新思想,它是利用信息技术、仿真技术、计算机技术等对现实制造活动中的人、物、信息及制造过程进行全面的仿真,以发现制造中可能出现的问题,在产品实际生产前就采取预防措施,使得产品一次制造成功,以达到降低成本、缩短产品开发周期,增强企业竞争力的目的。在虚拟制造中,产品从初始外形设计、生产过程的建模、仿真加工、模型装配到检验整个的生产周期都是在计算机上进行模拟和仿真的,不需要实际生产出产品来检验模具设计的合理性,因而可以减少前期设计给后期加工制造带来的麻烦,更可以避免模具报废的情况出现,从而达到提高产品开发的一次成品率,缩短产品开发周期,降低企业的制造成本的目的。本文针对虚拟制造在汽车模具制造的应用进行简要的探讨。
