新时期以来,汪曾祺和苏童延续了中国短篇小说的艺术精神,并进行艺术创新,在短篇小说的创作实践中生成了“敞开与自由”、“纯净与诗意”和“绵远与丰富”的文体品格,形成和积淀了新的艺术经验,成为中国当代短篇小说艺术灵魂的重要内涵,从而对新时期短篇小说的创作产生了重要的影响。发掘和反思这些艺术经验,并重视它们发育、生成的具体过程,是当代文学研究面临的一个迫切问题。
