昆明师专艺术系始建于1992年,时仅有一个美术教育班,42名学生,8名教职员,学制二年,是昆明师专最小的系.1993年美术教育专业改学制为三年并增设了工艺美术专业.1995年再设立音乐教育专业并招入首届新生,至1997年,艺术系已发展成为拥有美术教育专业、音乐教育专业和工艺美术专业八个班,学生200余人教职工近30人的大系.1998年起,工艺美术专业改学制为三年,并为适应市场经济发展的需要,扩大招生量.几年来,艺术系已培养出合格的美术音乐教育专业毕业生一百四十余名,商品广告和包装装璜设计毕业生八十余名,这些毕业生都走上了工作岗位,为教育事业和经济建设发
