In this paper, empirical tests of questionnaires and interviews confirm that Chinese EFL learners are prone to pragmatic failures when answering yes / no questions in the S + Aux + not + P, Aux + S? Type questions, and their oral mistakes are significantly higher than Written expression error rate. This article analyzes this from two aspects. Firstly, it analyzes the root causes of such pragmatic failures from the perspectives of English and Chinese cultures and ways of thinking. Secondly, analyzes the disparity of oral and written mistakes based on Krashen’s understandable input hypothesis. Finally, the article puts forward some enlightenment on college English teaching.
