徐霞客是我国古代杰出的地理学家和旅游家。他一生满怀对祖国大好河山的热爱，足迹遍及现今19个省市自治区，对主要河山的源流走向在其亲身考察、大胆探索的基础上多有研究，在自然地理学科的各个方面都做出了杰出贡献。特别是对西南岩溶地貌研究更独具卓见，为当前在岩溶地貌区进行农林、水利资源开发和交通建设提供了可贵资料。今天学习他终生献身祖国山河科学考察的精神，更具现实意义。
Xu Xiake is an outstanding geographer and traveler in ancient China. He was full of love for the great rivers and mountains of his motherland throughout his life, with his footprints all over the 19 provinces and autonomous regions nowadays. His research on the origins of major rivers and mountains has been conducted on the basis of his own investigation and bold exploration, and has been made in all aspects of natural geography Outstanding contribution. Especially for Southwest karst geomorphology more unique insights for the current karst area for agriculture, forestry, water resources development and transport construction provided valuable information. It is more realistic to learn from his life-long dedication to the scientific investigation of the motherland’s mountains and rivers.
