1973年石明松同志在湖北省沔阳县发现了一株特殊的粳型雄性不育水稻,被专家们命名为湖北光周期敏感核雄性不育水稻即HPGMR(Hubei photoperiod sensitive genic male ste-rile rice),简称光敏核不育水稻,它的原始株写作农垦58S。由于这种雄性育性受光周期控制的水稻是首次发现的特异种质资源,除对植物雄性不育理论和雄性不育育种技术的发展有重要意义外,还将对植物遗传学、植物生理学、发育生物学和高等植物基因调控等学科的发展具有重要意义,因此,已经受到国内外广泛关注。
