Since 1977 Zonge has used residual electromagnetic (REM) data to detect alterations above the field, the REM method has seen a new development in mapping the mining industry. Since then, the method has been used on thirteen known oil and gas fields and more. Most critically, reliable anomalies have been observed on every known oil and gas field, and most of the REM predictions have been confirmed by exploration drilling. The versatility of the REM method is also evidenced by a number of difficult formations and formation traps (including faults) it has identified.
