Since cancer is a manifestation of dysregulation of cells, cytokines, which have a powerful role in regulating the behavior of normal cells, can logically be used to treat cancer. Cytokines have at least three potential roles in controlling malignant cell growth: acting directly as cytostatics or cytotoxins in malignancies; as host immune response stimulators to tumors; and to some extent, promoting normal bone marrow cells following chemotherapy and radiotherapy repair.
