韶山1型电力机车的电制动方式为固定式电阻制动,其电阻制动特性如图1的粗实线所示。当机车运行在低速区时,制动力较小,而且随速度的下降制动力下降得很快,这是固定式电阻制动的缺点,尤其当机车运行在具有自动闭塞的线路上,就不能满足铁路技规第214条的要求。为此,我们对韶山1型的电阻制动系统进行了改造,将制动电阻增加一个中间抽头,存低速电阻制动时短接一段电阻,就可使低速时电制动力大大增加,如图1的虚线
