Objective: To investigate the changes of serum levels of TGF-α, TGF-β, VEGF and AFP in patients with primary liver cancer before and after operation. Methods: Serum levels of TGF-α, VEGF and AFP in 32 patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma before and after operation were measured by radioimmunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively, and compared with 35 healthy controls. Results: Before surgery, the levels of serum TGF-α, VEGF and AFP were significantly higher than those in normal people (P <0.01). There was no significant difference between the two groups after 3 months of operation (P> 0.05) . Conclusion: Detecting the serum level of TGF-α, TGF-β, VEGF and AFP in patients with primary liver cancer has important clinical value in exploring the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of primary liver cancer.
