Objective To explore the role of medical failure modes and effects analysis (HFMEA) in optimizing neonatal identification process in unarmed wards. Methods A total of 268 neonates with unaccompanied neonatal ward income from January to October in 2016 were selected and divided into control group and observation group according to the order of admission. The control group used a conventional identification process and the observation group used HFMEA to improve the identification process. Results Neonatal identification error did not occur in both groups. The rate of newborn foot drop in the observation group was 0.7%, the incidence of false foot ring information was 0, which was lower than 6.0% and 4.5% in the control group, and the nursing satisfaction was higher than that in the control group (P <0.05) . Conclusions The use of HFMEA to improve non-ICU neonatal identification process can reduce nursing errors and improve the safety of neonatal identification and family satisfaction.
