魂瓶是东吴至西晋时期流行于今浙东等地区的重要随葬明器。小孔与动物的组合形象是东吴中晚期魂瓶罐腹上使用较为集中的一种装饰手法,它采用了“物类相感”的造物思想,以利导灵魂在魂瓶中安居、出入和再生,有着极其强烈的象征意义,带有较为显著的吴越本土巫术俗信色彩。装饰中最常出现的动物形象是小弹涂鱼,小弹涂鱼由于其特殊的自然属性被选作装饰的主要象征符号。小孔与动物组合装饰的造物思想与魂瓶整体的造物思想是协调统一的,是魂瓶造型艺术中最重要的元素之一。
