尽管很多年轻人对红旗轿车已经没有太深刻的记忆了,但不得不承认,“红旗”二字已经远远超出了一个轿车品牌的含义,新中国发生的太多历史事件都与“红旗”有关。在国人心里,它有其他品牌所不能代替的位置,饱含了深深的名族情感。从东风轿车说起红旗轿车来自于“中国第一汽车制造厂”(以下简称“一汽”),大家都知道一汽最早是制造卡车的,要说红旗,还得先从解放卡车说起。1956年7月,第一辆解放牌卡车研制成功,就在当年党中央召开政治局会议的时候,毛泽东说了一句话:“哪一天能坐上自己生产的轿车就好了!”在那个政治气氛很浓的年代,毛泽东的一句话激起了人民群众的热情和干劲。次年,国务院第一机械工业部给一汽下达了生产轿车的任务。
