胡同指位于主要街道间的狭小道路,这个称呼其实源自蒙古人,而且指的不是街道,指水井。蒙古族最初生活在沙漠和草原上,一直十分重视水源的问题,所以到元朝,他们在建设元大都时,要么先挖井再造房,要么先预留井的位置再规划房屋布局,最后形成了“因井而成巷”的建筑格局。逐渐地,元大都的街道被称作“胡同”。又经过千百年,“胡同”的意思成为今天这样子。
Alley refers to the narrow streets located between the main streets, the term actually originated from the Mongols, and refers to the streets, referring to wells. Mongolians originally lived on deserts and grasslands. They always attached great importance to the issue of water sources. By the time of the Yuan Dynasty, they either dug wells and reconstructed their houses in the Yuan dynasty. They either reserved the wells and then planned the layout of the houses and finally formed “Because of the well into the lane ” building pattern. Gradually, the streets of the Yuan capital are called “alleyways.” After thousands of years, the meaning of “alley” becomes like this today.
