On February 23, 2014, one day after its birth, a baby was abandoned in the baby hatch in Guangzhou and later it was confirmed that the baby was dead. This news put the old topic of “baby abandonment” in front of the public once again. Different from before, this old topic had a new background of the founding of “Baby’s Safety Islands”. The first “Baby’s Safety Island” was founded in Shijiazhuang and it had a lot of social controversy from the very start. The Director of Social Welfare Institute of Shijiazhuang Han Jinhong said: “We cannot change the behavior of abandonment but we can change the results of abandonment.”
The first belief of “Safety Island” is life supremacy. However, can this protective umbrella of life hold a clear sky for abandoned babies?
