Arabic is like a bible, turning the corner, plus writing from right to left, as opposed to many other words. A few thousand miles away, my friend from China sent a telegram to ask if the computer recognizes Arabic. I left my mind and decided to answer her this way: There is no desert before the computer. In the United Arab Emirates, computers are even more widely used than in China. PC and the Internet are commonplace, and having a computer website on a business card seems like a trendy one. I lamented that the herdsmen who climbed down on the camels quickly got into the world of computers. Believe it or not, the UAE has a combined population of more than 2.3 million citizens and only 29 people per square kilometer. Last year, about 30 million personal computers were sold (of course, including entrepot trade). This market is still growing at an annual rate of 20%.
