High-chromium cast iron is a promising material for the manufacture of wire and profile mill rolls. In the past, high-chromium cast irons with 14-16% chromium were used, hindering their application on rolling mills due to their high as-cast hardness and difficult machining. In order to make the high chromium cast iron roll widely used in the finishing mill roll, the Ukrainian Metallurgical Research Institute comprehensively studied the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as cast and as-treated high chromium cast iron.
