A survey of 140 companies run by French researchers was conducted. The distribution of these enterprises is consistent with the localized classification of civil research funding. These researchers act in four roles: entrepreneurs, technologists, managers and capitalists. Nearly half of the researchers are from national research centers. The capital of the first researcher-run company founded in 1961 has so far doubled 1,000 times. The state has provided effective help for the development of these enterprises. At the end of the nineteenth Century, Siemens, burial Philips scientists founded today has become a business giant. What matters for these businesses is not blood transfusions but the ambitions that inspire them and the opportunity to work harder.
