《草叶集》是19世纪美国伟大的思想家和文学家惠特曼的第一部诗集,也是他毕生唯一的一部诗集。《草叶集》涉及的内容十分广泛,除了有关作者对于个人灵魂和肉体之间关系的思考之外,同时还反映了美国社会变迁过程当中的很多方面。而尤为重要的是,《草叶集》蕴含了惠特曼本人追求和崇尚民主自由的思想。本文通过对《草叶集》文本的研究分析,探讨和展现了惠特曼的民主思想。
Grass Leaves is the first collection of poems by Whitman, the great thinker and writer of the 19th century in the United States, as well as his only poetry collection in his life. “Grass Leaves” covers a wide range of topics. In addition to the author’s consideration of the relationship between the individual soul and the body, it also reflects many aspects of the process of social change in the United States. More importantly, Grass Leaves contains Whitman’s thought of pursuing and advocating democracy and freedom. This article explores and demonstrates Whitman’s democratic thinking through the research and analysis of the “Grass Leaves” text.
