Since early 1997, the demand for machine tools in the United States has shown a strong momentum. Until October 1997, the annual growth rate of orders reached 17%, indicating that the machine tool market in Q4 still strong. The source of strong market comes from those industrial sectors that must increase their production plans due to the increasing demand for their products but their current production capacity is inadequate. In the first 10 months of 1997, US machine tool spending increased to 6.87 billion U.S. dollars, and it is estimated that it will reach 8.24 billion U.S. dollars for the whole year. If the current economic growth can continue until 1998 and 1999, orders for processing equipment are expected to continue to grow.
