对籼、粳稻种和籼、粳杂交的研究,国内外学者作了大量的工作,已有不少报道。但是,正如Khush(1979)所指出的:“对爪哇稻的遗传学和细胞学的研究几乎未做工作,目前也尚无积极的育种计划来改良爪哇型水稻。”“爪哇型水稻也未曾用于改良籼稻和粳稻。”因此,在当前反复利用籼、粳资源,造成遗传基础日趋贫乏的情况下,对爪哇稻进行遗传研究,将爪哇稻作为遗传资源引入目前的育种工作中,是有积极意义的。
