The authors analyzed 204 cases of acute epiglottitis admitted between May 1951 and May 1978. Age: The most common age of onset of this group is 2 to 6 years old. The youngest is 11 months and the youngest is 11 years old. Age is quite helpful in differentiating between acute laryngotracheitis and acute epiglottitis. According to the authors’ experience, most of the severe cases of acute laryngotracheitis or “Grubbs” are children under 2 years of age.
