众所周知,一个汉语句子一般有一个或两个以上的动词。但要将这样的汉语句子译为英语时,不必把每个动词都译成相应的英语动词,其中某个动词可以用英语介词来表达。笔者在批改学生的汉译英练习时,发现有些学生不会使用英语介词来代替汉语动词.例如这样两句汉语:“你来这儿干什么?”“我来这儿开会的。”学生的译文是:“Whathave you came here to do?”“I have come here to attend a meeting.”如果译文中的动词不定式用介词来代替,不但符合英语习惯,而且句子简洁有力。“What haveyou come here for?”“I have come here for a meeting.”英语介词 for 在问句中
As we all know, a Chinese sentence generally has one or two or more verbs. However, to translate such a Chinese sentence into English, it is not necessary to translate each verb into a corresponding English verb, and one of the verbs may be expressed in English prepositions. When correcting the students’ CE translation exercises, I found that some students do not use English prepositions instead of Chinese verbs, for example, two sentences of Chinese: “What are you doing here?” “I come here for a meeting.” The student’s translation is: “Whathave you came here to do?” “I have come here to attend a meeting.” If the translator’s infinitives are replaced by prepositions, it is not only in accordance with the English language but also concise and powerful. “What have you come here for?” “I have come here for a meeting.” English preposition for in question
