我国南方有一个历史悠久和文化丰富独特的少数民族——瑶族。东起江西,西至云南勐腊,南达广西防城,北迄湖南辰溪,都有瑶族分布,故有“南岭无山不有瑶”之说。广西是我国瑶族的主要聚居区,主要分布在广西壮族自治区的河池、贺州、柳州、桂林四市所辖县,其中恭城、富川、都安、金秀、巴马、大化6个自治县的瑶族人口最为集中,又以金秀瑶族自治县瑶族人口及支系最多。小聚居、大分散是瑶族的分布特点。
