LE-5系日本未来运载火箭H-1的第二级发动机。该发动机由日本宇宙开发事业团于1977年开始研制,计划于1985年完成。发动机设计可行性阶段于1982年完成。从1982年9月至1984年2月,宇宙开发事业团对LE-5飞行型发动机进行了高空模拟试验。发动机比推力达到448秒,超越设计指标。由于发动机结构简单,具有独特的启动方法,故其启动有很高的可靠性。试验证明了LE-5和H-1运载火箭的适应性。
The LE-5 is the second-stage engine of Japan’s Future Launch Vehicle H-1. The engine was developed by the Japanese Space Development Agency in 1977 and is scheduled to be completed in 1985. Engine design feasibility stage completed in 1982. From September 1982 to February 1984, NASDA conducted a high-altitude simulation test of the LE-5 flight-type engine. Engine thrust reached 448 seconds, beyond the design specifications. Due to its simple engine structure and unique start-up method, its start-up has high reliability. The tests demonstrated the suitability of LE-5 and H-1 launch vehicles.
