Time and children are the two major themes of McEwan’s novel The Child in Time. The bending of time and the image of children become the main way McEwan expresses political allegory and modern social crisis. However, the space utilization in his works can not be neglected. By using the theory of spatial narratology of Zorlu, this article attempts to explore the driving force of the spatial structure in the generation of the text meaning of “children in time” from three aspects: topographical space, space-time and body space. The textual space structure not only promoted the process of narration, but also promoted the generation and expression of thematic meanings. It also fulfilled McEwan’s allegory of motivation for the ultimate writing of the Thatcher administration “New England ” reform in the 1980s.
