Kurgan, a frontier station in the west of South Tianshan, NW China, is difficult to access for geologists. For this reason, this area is lack of special geological work. And so is the Mesozoic coal-bearing molasses outcropped there. We collected specimens of chert gravel from the conglomerate at the bottom of the Middle-Upper Triassic Kelamayi Formation there. There are 46 individual radiolarian fossils to be found from 12 specimens in 30 speciments analyzed. Two radiolarian assemblages can be identified: one is the early Early Carboniferous assemblage represented by Albaillella paradoxa and Albaillella sp. cf. Albaillella paradoxa; another is the Middle-Late Permian assemblage represented by Follicucullus sp. and Follicucullus sp. aff. Follicucullus bipartitus. This discovery at least indicates the existence of early Early Carboniferous and Middle-Late Permian chert as provenances for Triassic at Kurgan.
