为了加强西北5省区(陕西、甘肃、青海、新疆、宁夏)农林牧科学院之间的联系,充分发挥各院的技术优势,共同为开发大西北,振兴西北地区的农业经济作出贡献,经5省区农林牧科学院院长反复磋商,在自愿、平等、互利的基础上,实行科研业务、技术开发、人员培训、信息交流、行政管理等方面的合作,并于1988年9月6日至10日在宁夏农林科学院召开了首届协作会议。参加会议的有陕西农业科学院、甘肃农业科学院、青海农林科学院、青海畜牧科学院、新疆农业科学院、新疆畜牧科学院、宁夏农林科学院等7院的领导、业务部门的负责同志和有关人员共49人。中国农业科学院党组付书记陆肇海同志参加会议并讲了话。宁夏回族自治区副主席李成玉以及区科委、农业厅、农建委的领导同志到会表示祝贺。
