This article reports the impact of Chinese dialect prosody transfer on Chinese learners’ accent output. The researchers examined the acoustic characteristics of pitch, duration, pitch, and vowel quality when Beijing dialect and Cantonese background learners from Guangzhou and English native speakers produce English double-syllable words. The results show that: 1) Compared with the English group, the two Chinese dialects have higher pitch, shorter duration, lower sound intensity and less vowel weakening when producing English word stress; 2) There was significant difference in the pitch, duration, pitch and vowel quality of both accented and non-stressed syllables in the Cantonese group. The Peking dialect’s pitch is higher than that of the Cantonese dialect, but the duration and intensity are smaller, and the vowel weaker is better. The results are consistent with experimental hypotheses. This paper explains the stress type model and the rhythm migration hypothesis.
