An annual survey released last year by Gallup, a well-known polling agency in the United States, shows that most Americans expect primary and secondary schools to attach importance to developing their children’s soft skills, including critical thinking and communication skills. Polls show that 80% and 78% of respondents, respectively, think that primary and secondary schools should develop children’s critical thinking and communication skills, both of which rank the highest among all soft skills. In addition, 64% and 61% of respondents think that primary and secondary schools should teach their children how to set up a “meaningful goal” and how to motivate their children. 58% and 57% of respondents think that the school should cultivate children’s creativity and cooperation.
