In 1973, the Soviet Union held a conference on the physiological, biochemical and biophysical basis of the heterosis of crop plants in the Institute of Crop Cultivation, Selection and Genetic Science named after Yavuz Yuryv in Ukraine. More than 100 scientists and technicians from 35 institutes of scientific research, agriculture and education in the Soviet Union in the areas of selection, inheritance, physiology, biochemistry and biophysics attended the conference. The meeting discussed the theory and practice of different aspects of complex biological phenomena such as heterosis and summarized the results of their experimental and theoretical studies. Jeff 格赫赫巴巴 Zoff reported some new features on the heterosis, which put forward the biophysical hypothesis of heterosis. He believes that the important genetic mechanism that determines the viability of organisms with heterosis is the interaction of homologous chromosomes
