徐州市大白菜杂交制种工作,从1978年小面积制种发展到1981年70多亩,每亩单产由50~60斤提高到155.2斤.1981年收获大白菜杂交一代种子10865斤.从1978~1981四年制种工作看出:(一)每亩结荚数是构成种子单产的重要因素.亩产50与200斤,相差3倍,每亩荚数从70~210万荚,相差两倍,两者之间的关系程度较大.而每荚平均结粒数只相差0.41~2.58粒,种子千粒重相差在0.22~0.72克之间,对产量关系较小.从山东4号这一组合的单株荚结构来看,结荚以第一、二级分枝为主,其结英数占全株87.07~90.15%,种子产量占全株的90%以上.在一般情况下,要获得1斤大白菜杂交种子,需要1.1~1.6万个种荚.
