Objective: To study the brain damage of children with hand, foot and mouth disease complicated with encephalitis. Methods: 35 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease and 3-month-old children with encephalitis who were discharged from hospital were selected as case group and 3 to 6-year-old children with normal physical examination (including mental and sensory test items) in our hospital were selected as the control group. Sensory integration assessment was performed using the Childhood Sensory Integration Rating Scale (Infant) provided by Peking University Mental Health Institute. Developed by the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, “0-6-year-old children’s neuropsychological development checklist” for the development of business evaluation. Comparison of two groups of assessment results. Results: The sensory integration dysfunction rate in case group was significantly higher than that in control group (57.1% vs 32.4%, P <0.05). The total developmental volume in case group was significantly lower than that in control group (91.5 ± 10.0 vs 96.7 ± 6.8, P <0.05) . Conclusion: There is a higher incidence of sensory integration disorder in hand, foot and mouth disease with encephalitis. There is also some impairment of intelligence development, which needs the attention of doctors and parents.
