《人民教育》1992年第3期发表的《农村教改实践家》一文,在吉林省柳河县引起强烈反响。柳河县共有36所中学,其中农村中学29所。农村中学的教育改革怎么搞,始终是柳河县校长、教师们热切关注的问题。《农村教改实践家》一文给了他们很大的启示。一位中学校长说:“李元昌的事迹告诉我们,教学改革并非神秘莫测,可望而不可及;并非城市可搞,农村不能搞;并非条件好的学校可搞,条件差的学校不能搞。只要我们遵照教育规律,勇于实践,大胆探索,教育改革就一定会成功。”一位中学语文教师说:“李元昌同志给农村中学教育改革蹬出了一条路子。我不但要学他的教育思想,奉献精神,还要把他的教学方法学到手,让他的教改经验在我校开花结果。”
