Long ago, scientists had proposed a program for the production of tritium for nuclear warheads, which is gaining popularity in the United States. Scientists and engineers at the National Los Alamos Laboratory, National Brookhaven Laboratory and Westinghouse Hanford will soon submit a report to the U.S. Department of Defense about their preparation of a giant linear proton Accelerator to produce tritium, the power used by the accelerator can be provided by the excess power from the hydropower station. The United States has only one nuclear power plant for producing nuclear warheads, namely the Savannah River Nuclear Plant. However, the nuclear plant was shut down last spring because the equipment was outdated, forcing the U.S. Department of Defense to consider other ways to produce tritium.
