Soil erosion rates in a given area can be determined by a specific method that combines many of the natural and operating variable criteria. In agricultural land, it is obviously uneconomical to determine the wastage rate by natural assays for each of the myriad possible combinations of variable factors. The purpose of the soil loss equation is that people with soil and water conservation plans will apply limited soil erosion data directly to areas without soil erosion data. The general equation of soil loss is used to predict long-term average soil erosion from runoff in a given area. The result of using this formula in many areas proves its practicability and reliability. By proper selection of the value of each factor, this equation can be used to calculate a specific crop year or crop period
